CON-Riyadh Hosts Girls Summer Camp

On Monday, July 20, 2009, the College of Nursing – Riyadh in King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences hosted the 16th girl’s summer camp. The College offered many segments and workshops which won the approval of the students. The visit achieved many educational and academic objectives including explaining the profession of nursing to the girls and giving a brief on how to apply to the College of Nursing. The day’s program included an opening speech to welcome the members of the girl’s summer camp. Noura Bakeer, an intern in CON, gave a brief introduction about the College of Nursing and the nursing profession. Furthermore, Ms. Abeer Al-Ayaf, the head of Admission and Registration in the College of Nursing, talked about the unified electronic admission committees. Afterwards, students attended several workshops on first aid, breast cancer and how to perform self-examinations. Furthermore, they provided information about Swine Flu (H1N1), its symptoms and prevention. The program was concluded by a cultural program entitled “Know Your Personality” presented by Ms. Fatima Jokub in which many guests learned more about their personality through an innovative method used to analyze personalities. Several of the guest students from the camp expressed their gratitude to the College of Nursing for their welcome and all the cultural, scientific and entertaining segments offered. Learning a lot from this experience, one of the students promised that she will join them soon. Unified Acceptance for Female Students

King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences contributed in a number of unified electronic admission committees for public universities in Riyadh for the academic year 1430/1431H which will start on Thursday 1/8/1430 H for two weeks. The admission’s electronic gateway will close on Wednesday 14/8/1430 H for all disciplines. It is important to note that required personal interviews for college submission will continue through the portal for a period of five days starting from Thursday 1/8/1430 H until Monday 5/8/1430 H. Moreover, interviews for female candidates will be held on from Saturday 10/8/1430 H to Monday 12/8/1430 H. The committee for unified e-admission website designed for public universities in Riyadh held a workshop for guidance councilors in the Ministry of Education in Riyadh. The workshop was held in the College of Education – Humanities in Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University to explain the procedures of unified admission for female students in public universities in Riyadh for the academic year 1430/1431H. The objective of the workshop was to spread awareness among high school seniors about the unified electronic admission, what it means, its objectives, its procedures and its timetable. A presentation was given and pamphlets were handed out to each student containing admission and acceptance information. King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (College of Nursing – Riyadh) will handle replying to the students through the online forum for unified admission in Riyadh. It will respond to any inquires from students regarding the conditions and procedures of the unified admission for the upcoming year. CON Represented in US Conferences

Last March, the College of Nursing in Riyadh participated in the thirty-third meeting of the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Representing CON was Dr. Hanem Mohamed ElMawla, Assistant Professor in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Nursing Department, who presented a paper entitled: “Women’s Treatment-Seeking Behavior for Acute Myocardial Infarction: Antecedence and Consequences”. She discussed how Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is one of the most common diseases among women in Egypt. The objective of her study was to examine the effect of knowledge of acute myocardial infarction risk factors and to assess the relationship between women’s treatment-seeking behavior and physiological and physiological outcomes. Furthermore, Dr. Hala Abdelmonem Saied, an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Nursing participated in a conference held in the Pacific Institute of Nursing, Hawaii and presented a study entitled: “Neonatal Outcome of Post-term Pregnancies in Egypt.” The object of her paper was to evaluate the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes among post-term births and had recruited 50 pregnant women for the study. Standardization of CON Curriculum Plan

In April, a workshop was organized in the College of Nursing – Jeddah by the three colleges of nursing in King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (Jeddah – Riyadh – Al Ahsa). The workshop aimed to standardize the curriculum plan and the description of the Nursing study material. Dr. Wafika Suleiman, the Dean of the College of Nursing – Jeddah stated that the importance of this workshop stemmed from the need to standardize the curriculum plan due to the marked expansion of the University in all three areas of the Kingdom (Eastern – Central – Western). The three colleges of nursing are among the first to apply the standardization and this workshop is ample proof that all three colleges are committed to standardizing their curricula to improve the quality of the learning process and syllabus. Admission and Registration

The Deanship of Admissions and Registration at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences announced the start of admission for the Bachelor of Medicine, College of Medicine from Saturday December 4, 2010 to Wednesday January 5, 2011. Moreover, the Medical Education Department in the College of Medicine – KSAU-HS announced the start of registration for the Master’s degree in Medical Education for the second semester of the year 1431 H – 1432 H. On-line registration starts on Saturday December 4, 2010 and finishes on Monday  January 3, 2011. The Colleges of Nursing – Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Ahsa also announced the start of admission for the bachelor degree from December 2, 2010 to Friday December 17, 2010.
